Patriots rookie quarterback Joe Milton III quickly became a fan-favorite during his first training camp, drawing some of the loudest cheers through three days at Gillette Stadium.

We get it.

It’s hard not to root for the guy.

He can throw the football a country mile. He has a Cam Newton-esque personality on the field, keeping things loose and dancing with his wide receivers throughout practice. He does a freakin’ backflip, despite being bigger than most linebackers.

“My dad taught me when I was 3, so I’ve been flipping ever since,” Milton told reporters following practice Friday. “I don’t think it’ll ever leave me as a person, so when I get older I’ll be flipping, as well… I did it every game at Tennessee.”

Milton isn’t just out there doing flips, though.

Javon Baker hauled in a 60-ish-yard touchdown from his fellow rookie Friday, with the former Tennessee Volunteer continuing to rep ahead of Bailey Zappe during competitive team drills.

“I haven’t thrown something like that since the combine,” Milton said of the throw. “It’s always a good time to open it up, though.”

Milton isn’t expected to play any time soon, as something will have to go wrong for him to ever get playing time over Drake Maye. New England can look forward to watching him this preseason, though, where more flips might just be in store.

“If I don’t get a flag I’ll do it.”
