Celtics star Jaylen Brown will miss the next two games for Boston due to a significant injury, the club announced on Friday.
The team said in a release that Brown has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and posterior impingement in his right knee and will be reevaluated on Monday. He will miss Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz and Sunday against the Portland Trailblazers.
Brown missed the Celtics’ March 6 and 14 contests due to his right knee issue. Both of those games were part of back-to-back sets. While the reevaluation timeline suggests the injury isn’t as serious as it seems on the surface, it is unknown if Brown will be available for the rest of Boston’s road trip in Sacramento, Phoenix, San Antonio and Memphis.
The four-time All-Star has averaged 22.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 35.3 minutes per game across 56 games this season.
The Celtics 50-19 record puts Boston six games behind the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers and six games up on the No. 3 New York Knicks. Since the Celtics have already clinched a playoff berth, the priority appears to have Brown healthy for the postseason.
