Christian Elliss won’t be leaving the Patriots after all.

Elliss, a restricted free agent, appeared to be on his way out of New England when he took a visit to Las Vegas and signed an offer sheet from the Raiders. However, according to multiple reports, the Patriots plan to match the offer and in turn will keep the linebacker under contract through the 2026 season.

The 26-year-old joined New England in early December 2023 when he was claimed off waivers following his release from the Philadelphia Eagles. After quietly closing out that season with the Patriots, Elliss played in all but one game for New England in 2024 and ranked third on the team in total tackles (80). It was a massive jump for the 2021 undrafted free agent, whose previous career high was 23.

Now with a new deal in Foxboro, Mass., Elliss will stay in a Patriots linebacker group that added newcomers Robert Spillane and Jack Gibbens in free agency. Ja’Whaun Bentley, Jahlani Tavai and Afernee Jennings join Elliss as the most notable mainstays at the position heading into the 2025 season.
