The Red Sox are coming off an unpleasant three-day stretch at Fenway Park, and we’re not only talking about the club’s three straight losses.
Boston dealt with unseasonably cold weather to kick off the week, as its first two games against Toronto were played in temperatures below 40 degrees. In fact, Tuesday night’s first-pitch temperature was the third-coldest ever recorded at Fenway Park.
Once the contests were underway, Alex Cora had no time for complaints about the frigid weather. But that didn’t mean the Red Sox manager was eager to have his team play in the freezing cold.
“Manager Alex Cora said he asked team president Sam Kennedy about moving games up this week. The team declined,” The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham wrote in a column published Wednesday night.
“The fan base and all that, all that stuff comes into play,” Cora told reporters, per The Globe. “(Tuesday) was uncomfortable but both teams were uncomfortable.”

Fortunately for Cora and company, they will play in more favorable conditions Thursday when they try to avoid a four-game sweep. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 40s when the series finale kicks off and the wind isn’t expected to be much of a factor.
NESN’s complete coverage of the divisional matchup begins at 3 p.m. ET.
