The Boston Red Sox traded away pieces of their future to the Chicago White Sox this offseason in order to land Garrett Crochet.
And one of the four former Red Sox prospects the organization parted with in the deal reportedly got called up to the big leagues by the White Sox on Thursday ahead of their weekend series with Boston.
It wasn’t Kyle Teel or Braden Montgomery, who were the most notable prospects the White Sox received in exchange for Crochet, to get called up. Instead, Chicago promoted Chase Meidroth to the majors for the first time in his career, according to multiple reports.
The Red Sox selected Meidroth in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB draft and saw him blossom over three seasons with the organization. The 23-year-old infielder spent last season with Triple-A Worcester, where he batted .293 with seven home runs and 57 RBIs.
Meidroth was known for his tremendous plate discipline during his time in the Red Sox organization. He owned a .437 on-bases percentage and walked 105 times compared to registering 71 strikeouts in 122 games in 2024.

Meidroth, who is ranked as the eighth-best prospect in Chicago’s system by MLB Pipeline, did more of the same with Triple-A Charlotte this season and the White Sox saw him worthy of promotion after he batted .267 with three homers, four RBIs and eight walks in nine games.
Meidroth will get a chance to make his MLB debut against the team that drafted him Friday when the Red Sox and White Sox begin a three-game series from Rate Field. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET and you can catch complete coverage of the game on NESN.
Aside from Meidroth, Teel is currently with Charlotte and is batting .190 with two homers and nine RBIs after a torrid start. Montgomery is with Chicago’s Single-A affiliate while the final prospect involved in the trade, Wikelman Gonzalez, is pitching in Double-A.
