Garrett Crochet joined a far more advantageous baseball situation when the Chicago White Sox traded him to the Boston Red Sox for four prospects in December.

Crochet and the Red Sox arrived on the South Side for a three-game series for the starter’s first time back at Rate Field since the trade. The new Red Sox ace certainly didn’t sound emotional in his return.

“It’s cool, it’s nothing crazy,” Crochet told NESN’s Jahmai Webster. “I’ve kind of been downplaying it all week. Walking in today was special. At the same time, I’ve got a start to look forward to. That’s what I’m focused on.”

Crochet actually had a comical moment when he got to the ballpark when he was required to show ID to gain entry after he arrived at the park on his own.

“That was funny,” Crochet added, per Webster. “I don’t think that they were expecting me not on a bus.”

Crochet made one playoff appearance with the White Sox in 2021 and showed appreciation for the team that drafted him.

“It was great,” Crochet told reporters, per NESN. “I loved it. The organization that drafts you, people say, typically treats you the best. It was all I knew, but being over here in Boston, the love has been the exact same. It was a good organization as far as I’m concerned.”

Crochet immediately enters a better baseball situation with a potential playoff team in the Red Sox while the White Sox set a record for losses in 2024.

“For me, it was not very hard to move on, honestly,” Crochet said. “Especially going to the Red Sox. Such a storied franchise. I was excited quite frankly and still am for what this team can accomplish this season.”

“Not as hard as you’d think, I guess,” Crochet added. “Obviously, we didn’t win a lot of games.”

Crochet takes the ball for the Red Sox in the series finale Sunday against his former team.
