Garrett Crochet will be tasked to come through in a pivotal spot Sunday as the visiting Red Sox try to avoid an early-season sweep to the White Sox.
Chicago earned a walk-off win at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday afternoon after it took advantage of bad Boston defense in the series opener. The Red Sox have lost five of their last six contests.
Fortunately for the Red Sox, their left-handed ace, who was acquired in an offseason trade with the White Sox, is next on the rubber. In three starts this season, Crochet has a 1.45 ERA in 18 2/3 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts and seven walks.
The White Sox will counter with right-hander Shane Smith (1.54 ERA), who’s set to make his third start of the season.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora will re-insert left fielder Jarren Duran and first baseman Triston Casas into the lineup after giving both a day off. Right fielder Wilyer Abreu will elevate to the cleanup spot.
