Walker Buehler had a front-row seat to The Alex Bregman Show on Tuesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Bregman went 5-for-5 with a double, two home runs and four RBIs in the Boston Red Sox’s 7-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The career-best five hits from the veteran third baseman helped Buehler secure his second victory in a Red Sox uniform.

Of course, Boston can’t count on that kind of production from Bregman on a regular basis. But the Red Sox might not need to, as Buehler believes Boston’s clubhouse is littered with players who are capable of such a performance.

“I think we have five, six, seven guys that can have a day like Bregman did today and win us a game,” Buehler told reporters, as seen on NESN. “That’s kind of what you’re looking for — that depth. Not depth in terms of, like, ‘Oh, they could get a hit today,’ but depth of guys that can take over a game. We’ve got five, six or seven of those guys.”

The jury still is out on Buehler’s take. After all, the Red Sox only scored more than five runs in a game four times in their first 19 games. Alex Cora’s side also was held to three runs or less in 11 of those contests.

But we’ve seen glimpses of how potent the Boston batting order can be when it’s really clicking, so Buehler might be onto something.
