BOSTON — Most athletes block the outside noise from influencing their mindset. However, Bruins forward Morgan Geekie admitted during training camp that he embraces the negativity and uses it as fuel on the ice.
Geekie entered camp riding the momentum of the 2023-24 season when he notched a new career high in goals (17), assists (22) and points (39).
Unfortunately for Geekie, he got off to a slow start this season and found himself going from being a lineup regular to a healthy scratch just six weeks into the new campaign. He was scratched in five of Boston’s first 20 games of the campaign and scored just one goal over his 15 appearances.
Geekie was called out on X at the beginning of December for his lack of production, and the 26-year-old responded — not just to the post, but on the score sheet.
He was promoted to David Pastrnak’s line where he re-established himself as a dependable cog in the lineup. With his production numbers skyrocketing, Geekie still didn’t let go of the comments he had previously read.

“I mean, I still use it as motivation,” he explained. “It’s those, I still do read those things, and those same people that said things at the start of the year, maybe changed their narrative a little bit. I don’t really forget what they said at the start of the year, so it’s easy to jump on the bandwagon when someone’s doing well. I still use it as motivation.”
Geekie continued: “I think it’s something that can be an asset if you use it correctly, and it’s something that can tear you down. So there’s a nice balance to it.
“I know there’s a lot of people, too, that have kind of stuck beside me, especially in my inner circle that have lifted me up. Guys in this room and in the organization, just sticking with it and everything. It’s nice to have those people in your corner and someone you can always lean back on for sure.”
Whatever the reason, Geekie’s resurgence was definitely one of the few bright spots in the disappointing Bruins season. He finished the campaign second in team scoring behind Pastrnak with 33 goals and 57 points.
