The Boston Red Sox head home to Fenway Park after a six-game road trip that nearly took brutal turns on multiple occasions.
Boston lost the first two games of their series in Chicago to the previously two-win White Sox before Garrett Crochet salvaged the series finale with his best start in a Red Sox uniform. The following game brought a disaster against the Tampa Bay Rays where errors and opposing home runs led to an embarrassing 16-1 loss.
With the fate of the road trip on the line, the Red Sox responded in a big way to win the final two games and take the series. Tuesday was all about the offense behind two home runs and five hits from Alex Bregman, who then returned to be with his wife in Boston for the birth of their second child.
Wednesday marked a sensational effort from the bullpen as Greg Weissert, Garrett Whitlock and Justin Slaten protected the lone run of support on David Hamilton’s solo home run. The Red Sox got the 1-0 win to secure a series victory and a happy flight back to Boston.
The pair of wins ensured three ways the Red Sox returned to .500 on the season: Boston is now 10-10 on the season, 5-5 against the American League East and finished the six-game trip at 3-3.

The Red Sox have shown plenty of flashes of why they should be a playoff team in 2025. The offense had its nights to take over. There’s been individual instances of exceptional starting pitching. On nights like Wednesday, the bullpen can be extremely durable.
With that said, there’s a reason Boston sits at .500. Stretches of poor starts and insufficient defense dropped the Red Sox into pockets of inconsistency. The team returns home for the end of April and hopes to smoothen out their obstacles and build on the flashes, next up against the Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners.
