The Boston Celtics will be looking to halt a two-game straight-up losing streak on Wednesday night when they travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards.
Boston has struggled to contain the opposition during its current slide, surrendering 125.5 points per game over its two recent losses and dropping the club’s record to 3-3 SU ahead of Wednesday night’s Celtics vs. Wizards betting matchup at the Verizon Center.
The Celtics’ swoon began with a 128-122 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers as 10.5-point road underdogs last Thursday, followed by a stunning 123-107 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday as 7-point home chalk.
That ended a strong start by the Celtics, who had held opponents to just 101 points per game in their previous three outings. Boston also has been a solid bet at the sportsbooks over the past 10 days, posting against the spread victories in three of its past four games according to the OddsShark NBA Database.
With 15 of their next 23 contests being played away from TD Garden, the Celtics must overcome a brutal road record that dates back to last season.
Boston is 1-6 SU on the road since the start of last season’s first-round playoff matchup with Atlanta, and 5-12 SU and ATS in its past 17 overall on the road, claiming just one SU win as a road underdog during that stretch.
However, the Celtics have enjoyed recent success in matchups with Washington, winning four straight and going 3-0-1 ATS, including a pair of SU road victories.
The Wizards have gotten their season off to a rocky start, sitting at 1-5 SU following a 114-106 loss to the Houston Rockets as slim 1-point favorites on Monday night.
Washington opened the campaign amid tempered expectations after finishing outside the playoffs with a 41-41 record last spring. The Wizards were pegged at a middling +10000 on the NBA championship odds prior to opening night and since have fallen to +15000.
Following Wednesday’s clash, the Celtics return home to face the New York Knicks on Friday before wrapping up the week with a Saturday night road date with the Indiana Pacers.
The Celtics are a solid 6-1 SU in their past seven games against New York, but they have struggled against Indiana, going 1-3 SU and ATS in their past four overall meetings, and 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS in their past six visits to Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
