A brand new stick of gum is worth a few cents. A chewed-up wad is worth next to nothing, yet it somehow cost Paul Pierce $15,000.
That’s because the Celtics forward tossed his gum either into the scorer’s table or the crowd in Indiana last week. The league took notice and fined him $15,000 “for throwing an object into the stands.”
That’s a lot of money for a piece of trash. Was the fine fair?
It’s certainly nasty to go around tossing gum at people, but did that warrant a $15,000 fine?
