When the world learned that BYU had dismissed its basketball team’s leading rebounder, Brandon Davies, from the squad for having consensual, but pre-marital sex with his girlfriend, backlash couldn’t have come more quickly or been more intense.
The unanswered question, however, was “Why would somebody who wanted to have pre-marital sex go to BYU in the first place?”
Celtics GM and BYU legend Danny Ainge spoke out about the incident on Thursday, defending his alma mater.
“If you want to do those things, then you can go to any other university in the country and do them,” Ainge told FOX Sports.
In truth, Davies’ dismissal wasn’t completely about the sex, but instead about the breaching of the school’s honor code that resulted from the act.
“I think it’s a great code of conduct,” said Ainge, whose kids have also attended BYU. “It teaches discipline, teaches kids to not live in a world of instant gratification. It’s a different culture — and I love that culture.”
“People will ridicule it because they don’t understand it,” Ainge said.
Ainge himself is a Mormon Bishop who leads a congregation of 400.

Nothing says “thing of beauty” like Johnny Boychuk hitting people.
“Yes this is just what has been missing in his game for most of the year. I have brought this up many time’s on here asking when J.B was going to start dishing out those big hits. Well he answered the bell that is for sure! When he and Looch are hitting and playing physical this team is a unstoppable! He needs to keep them bone crushing hits coming, and put fear into player’s skating into the Bruins zone! It was a thing of beauty watching him play the way we know he is capable of playing. J.B gets the 2nd star of the game and well deserved!”
