Vote: How Far Will Connecticut Advance in 2011 NCAA Men's Tournament? There are very few hotter teams in the country right now than the University of Connecticut. Any team willing to try to make that claim instead should try winning five games in five nights to win the nation’s toughest conference tournament.

That’s exactly what the Huskies did this weekend, winning their record-tying seventh Big East championship, after downing Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

UConn found out on Sunday that they will be the No. 3 seed in the West region when the NCAA gets under way, and they certainly look like a team no one wants to face.

First of all, they’re red-hot. Second of all, and perhaps more importantly, they’ve got Kemba Walker, who is white-hot. The junior point guard had what some are calling the best Big East tournament of all time, scorching the nets for a Big East record of 130 points for the tournament.

The Huskies can ride that momentum through the first couple of rounds, but if they make it through to the Sweet 16, that’s where Jim Calhoun and his experience likely come in. Calhoun is one of the greatest active coaches, with three trips to the Final Four and two national championships on his resume.
