Report: Yankees Upset With Derek Jeter for Defending Jorge Posada Jorge Posada caused a mild media earthquake Saturday night in New York when he took issue with his spot in the batting order and refused to play. The ugly situation seemed to be resolved on Sunday, with Joe Girardi using Posada as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Not so fast, though, as the Yankees are apparently not happy with another of their iconic veterans.

Members of the Yankees' management are upset with Derek Jeter for his comments regarding the situation, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

"If I thought he did something wrong, I'd be the first to tell him," Jeter said over the weekend.

As Olney notes, the Jeter-Yankees relationship was somewhat damaged over the winter after general manager Brian Cashman played hardball with the 36-year-old shortstop in contract negotiations. Jeter admitted that he was frustrated that negotiations went public, but he was relieved to have signed with the Yankees. Later in the offseason, Cashman made an offhand remark that Jeter may have to finish his career as an outfielder.

Jeter and Posada, along with Mariano Rivera, are the only three remaining players from all five of the team's World Series wins since 1996.
