Shortly after the Bruins saw free-agent forward Michael Ryder sign with the Dallas Stars, they signed a winger of their own.

The Bruins have signed Benoit Pouliot to a one-year deal worth a reported $1.1 million.

The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch reported the news via Twitter, as did TSN's Bob McKenzie and Gord Miller.

Pouliot has spent the last year and a half with the Canadiens. He scored 13 goals and registered 17 assists in 79 games last season, but he registered no points in three playoff games against the Bruins. He was penalized for charging late in the first period of Game 3, after he left his feet to elbow Johnny Boychuk in the head. Andrew Ference then challenged Pouliot to a fight. Pouliot was scratched for the Habs' remaining four playoff games.

"He’s been a healthy scratch in Montreal [but] he’s certainly has shown flashes," B's general manager Peter Chiarelli said.. "He’s got to earn a spot, as will everyone else. So you know, he’s anxious to come here and to prove himself.

"We think he’s got a pretty good package that we can work with."

Pouliot, who will turn 25 just before the start of next season, has 37 goals and 35 assists in 183 career regular-season games. He has no goals and two assists in 22 playoff games.
