Red Sox Fans Can Get Inspiration From Houston's Barbecue and Fire Up Their Grills The Red Sox are deep in the heart of Texas beginning Friday night, as they face the Houston Astros at the end of a long road trip. A three-game series against the team with the worst record in baseball might be exactly what the sputtering Sox need right now.

After going 2-4 so far on this road trip, the Sox may be pining for some home cooking back at Fenway. And with the Fourth of July right around the corner, you may have started thinking about what kind of cooking you'll be doing.

Texas is well-known for its ability to let the Dillon Panthers win every game at the last second. It's also pretty well-known for its barbecue cuisine. So, what better chance than now to break down NESN Nation's top five barbecue dishes?

Warning: it's probably best not to read this on an empty stomach.

Without further ado, fire up your grills, brush up on your "meat science" and toss Tim Riggins a cold one, because this is going to get tasty.

1. Ribs
I want my baby back, baby back… ribs. Or you could go with short ribs. Beef ribs or pork ribs. Maybe you even go St. Louis style (but not if you're in Houston, that would be silly). If you can do ribs right, spending hours upon hours slow-cooking, then you know that it's worth the wait.

2. Pulled pork sandwiches
Again, patience is key for this dish. And again, the payoff makes it worth it.

3. Barbecue chicken
A classic. On summer holidays, barbecue chicken beats out buffalo chicken nine times out of 10. During sporting events, however, the ratio flips.

4. Smoked brisket
Wikipedia defines brisket as "a cut of meat from the breast or lower chest of beef or veal." Somebody should change that definition to "delicious."

5. Seafood
And we round out the top five with a surprise entrant. Apparently, seafood is just as good barbecued as its land-based counterparts of chicken, pork and beef. Throw a salmon onto a plank, toss a couple of shrimp over some barbecue sauce, go crazy. Mixing it up every once in a while isn't a bad thing.

Honorable mentions go to BBQ-flavored potato chips and the Ron Swanson Turkey Burger, which is a fried turkey leg cooked inside of a grilled hamburger. These two were disqualified because chip's can't be grilled and because Ron Swanson scares us.

But NESN Nation wants to know, which is your favorite barbecue meal? If we missed yours, comment and let us know what it is.
