Luis Suarez Tells Liverpool to Aim for Cups, Not 'Unreachable' League Championship Luis Suarez has downplayed Liverpool’s ambitions to win this season’s English Premier League, saying the early leaders are ‘unreachable’ according to ESPN. The star forward believes the Reds’ best chance for silverware is in the domestic cup competitions.

“We have no limit and want to stay in the top four,” he reportedly told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport. “But winning the Premier League is now very difficult. The two Manchesters and Chelsea are unreachable. But we can win the cups.”

The club’s stated aim for the season is a top-four finish and a place in next year’s UEFA champions League. The Reds are fifth in the EPL standings after seven games. They are six points behind leaders Manchester United and Manchester City and three points behind Chelsea.

Suarez has been a star performer at Anfield since his £22.7 million ($35.7 million) move from Ajax Amsterdam in January. He has bagged five goals in nine games this season and set up three more.

Liverpool’s squad depth is one of its strengths, as manager Kenny Dalglish added seven new faces in the summer transfer window alone. The club is not involved in any continental competitions, so its domestic focus should allow Dalglish to field strong teams in each match it plays.

Liverpool has progressed to the last 16 in the Carling Cup and have yet to play in this year’s FA Cup.

The Reds are unbeaten at home this season and host defending champions Manchester United in its next match on Oct. 15.
