Report: Theo Epstein Compensation Not 'Huge Deal' For Bud Selig After Dodgers Announce SaleCommissioner Bud Selig has said that he will step in if the Red Sox and Cubs don't agree on compensation for Theo Epstein.

But now that Frank McCourt has revealed his intention to sell the Dodgers, Selig may be putting the Sox and Cubs on his back burner.

On WEEI's Mutt and Merloni show Wednesday, Peter Gammons suggested that Selig doesn't see the Red Sox-Cubs compensation talks as a priority now, despite his promise to get involved.

"I think he was so giddy at getting into Los Angeles and knowing that Frank McCourt was finally giving up that it was hard to concentrate on a minor league pitcher," Gammons said.

"I think the whole compensation thing may well be a little overblown here," he continued. "I don't sense that Selig thinks this is a huge deal."

While Selig was expected to step in and make a ruling on Wednesday, the Red Sox and Cubs now may get some extra time to work out a deal without the commissioner's office stepping in.
