If you watched the New York Jets’ version of the HBO series Hard Knocks, you witnessed Rex Ryan‘s affinity for the F-word. But that propensity for using it might cost him some money.

A video of Ryan has surfaced on YouTube in which the Jets head coach curses at a fan while walking down the tunnel Sunday night. A fan can be heard yelling out to Ryan in the video, “Belichick’s better than you.” Ryan responds by telling the fan to shut up, while adding in an expletive.

Ryan said the incident happened as the team was heading off the field during halftime, and he has since apologized for the incident.

“I obviously made a mistake. I was full of emotion and just popped off. … I apologize,” he said at a news conference Monday. “I made a mistake. … Sometimes, my emotions get the best of me.”

The league is reportedly investigating the incident further, and it could elect to fine Ryan, who was fined $50,000 by the Jets last season for making an obscene gesture to a heckling Miami Dolphins fan at an MMA event in southern Florida.
