How Important Is Nathan Horton to the Bruins' Success?Nathan Horton made progress recently on his road back to recovery after sustaining a concussion against the Philadelphia Flyers.

According to Bruins coach Claude Julien, Horton is able to now ride an exercise bike without any ill effects, an important step as he works his way back into the lineup.

Horton has missed the last four games for the Bruins and without him on the ice, the Bruins have not looked quite the same. They’ve gone 1-3 during that stretch and the offense has noticeably sputtered. The team went 119 minutes and 36 seconds without a goal before Joe Corvo broke the spell against the Penguins and in the four games the team has only scraped together eight goals.

It’s true that the team was sputtering before the All-Star break when Horton was in the lineup, but his absence begs the question of whether or not he might be more crucial to the team’s success than he may ordinarily get credit for when the B’s are at full strength.

Yes, they were able to win the Stanley Cup with Horton cheering from the sidelines after a concussion in last year’s Final against Vancouver, but the way the team is playing now it doesn’t appear that they could beat many teams in a best-of-seven series.
