Kenny Dalglish: Glen Johnson Easily Fits Into Left Back Position in Jose Enrique's AbsenceLiverpool and England right back Glen Johnson is no stranger to the left back spot, as he played a handful of games there last season. Kenny Dalglish has no qualms about deploying him at left back again, as he did in Monday's draw against Tottenham.

"Glen was excellent but that wasn't a surprise," Dalglish told LiverpoolFC.tv. "It wasn't the first time Glen has played there and he has proved before he's more than capable of playing on the left."

The right-footed Johnson delivered a composed and confident performance, while playing on what is believed to be his weaker side. He often found himself matched against Nico Kranjcar, and kept the Croatian international under wraps throughout the game.

Regular left back Jose Enrique was forced to sit out the game with a calf problem, according to the ESPN broadcast. So Dalglish used Martin Kelly at right back and moved Johnson to the left.

Dalglish was credited with reviving Johnson's form last season, after he began using him as a left back. The new challenge helped the 27-year-old fullback rediscover the defensive prudence and attacking vitality that helped him become an England international.

If Enrique is forced to miss Saturday's trip to Manchester United, expect to see Johnson on the left side of defense. He will be tasked with containing United's in-form right winger, Antonio Valencia, which will be crucial to the outcome of the game.
