But Thornton got a very different kind of cut Wednesday, along with 16 of his Bruins teammates.

At the Cut for a Cause event, hosted by Thornton and 98.5 The Sports Hub's Fred "Toucher" Toettcher and Rich Shertenlieb, the Boston Bruins Foundation raised money for the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.

Each Bruins player in attendance stepped up to the barber's chair and allowed a fan (in conjunction with a trained stylist) to shave off their precious locks. As the hair drifted to the floor, the donations drifted in, too — each fan that got to shave a Bruin had to put up a bid.

By the end of the event, the Boston Bruins Foundation had helped raise more than $58,000.

In addition to Thornton, Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Nathan Horton, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Adam McQuaid, Chris Kelly, Johnny Boychuk, Jordan Caron, Torey Krug, Mike Mottau, Daniel Paille, Benoit Pouliot, Rich Peverley, Tyler Seguin and Dennis Seidenberg all had their ears lowered.
