Michael Irvin Wants Bill Belichick's Name Alongside Vince Lombardi's on Super Bowl TrophyBill Belichick has earned the respect of his peers through his hard work, dedication and success. If it were up to former Cowboys receiver and current NFL analyst Michael Irvin, Belichick would be immortalized alongside the great Vince Lombardi.

"I think the world of Belichick," Irvin told the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe recently. "I told him this, 'Man, if it was up to me, that [Super Bowl] trophy would be called the Lombardi/Belichick.' I don't care what they think. It would be called the Lombardi/Belichick. That's how good he is to do what he's doing in this day and age, what the league is now. I would call it the Lombardi/Belichick."

Belichick has accomplished a lot in his NFL career, winning three Super Bowls and reaching the big game five times. Lombardi, whom the trophy was named after upon his sudden death in 1970, won three NFL championships and two Super Bowls in nine seasons with the Packers.

Lombardi is widely considered one of the greatest coaches and motivators in the history of sports, so for Belichick to even be mentioned in the same breath is a major tip of the cap to the Patriots head coach. Belichick has been head and shoulders above the rest of the league since 2001, however, so perhaps Irvin's logic isn't as outlandish as it seems on the surface.

Irvin, despite his controversial career, won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys, so he too knows a thing or two about winning.
