Consider it a quick vacation. Now, it's back to work.
Scott Podsednik has signed a major league contract with the Red Sox, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. If accurate, the signing comes less than two weeks after Podsednik was traded by the Sox with Matt Albers to the Diamondbacks in exchange for Craig Breslow.
Podsednik never ended up appearing in a game with the D-Backs, as he was released after declining to accept his assignment to Triple-A Reno. According to The Boston Globe, Podsednik will rejoin the Red Sox on Friday, and Ryan Kalish will be optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Podsednik has been impressive with Boston this season. The 36-year-old veteran hit .387 with a home run and seven RBIs in 19 games before being shipped to the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline.
The Red Sox have sputtered since Podsednik's first stint with the club, so perhaps the speedy outfielder can at least bring some sort of spark to the team's bench.
