Things aren’t going so smoothly for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavs are 1-2 on the young NBA season after being blown out 101-82 by the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night. James made it clear after the loss that his team’s mishaps could take some time to correct.
“We have to understand what it takes to win,” James told reporters after being held scoreless in the second half. “It’s going to be a long process, man. There’s been a lot of losing basketball around here for a few years. So a lot of guys that are going to help us win ultimately haven’t played a lot of meaningful basketball games in our league.”
The four-time league MVP, who’s 11 points against Portland were his lowest total since 2008, mentioned that the Cavs need to clean up certain aspects of their game.
“There’s a lot of bad habits,” James said. “A lot of bad habits have been built up over the last couple of years, and when you play that style of basketball, it takes a lot to get it up out of you. But I’m here to help, and that’s what it’s about.”
James might be there to help, but Cleveland’s newly acquired forward, Kevin Love, has been the team’s top player thus far. Love had 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Blazers.
The Cavaliers look to start living up to their high expectations Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET when they take on the 1-3 Utah Jazz.
