Specialist Who Examined Marc Savard Discusses Severity of Concussions Concussions are nothing to mess with if you’re a professional hockey player — and unfortunately, forwards like Marc Savard are the most at risk for them.

NESN’s Jade McCarthy sat down with Kelly McInnis, a specialist in sports-related concussions who examined Savard after he took a nasty blindside hit from Pittsburgh’s Matt Cooke last Sunday.

“Forwards in hockey specifically tend to be the most at risk for injury because of the velocity at which they’re skating and often the blindsided hits,” McInnis explained on Friday’s edition of SportsDesk.

McInnis also discussed the difficulty in treating concussions, as no two athletes have the same experiences or symptoms after suffering a head injury.
