Wade McGilberry Wins $1 Million for Pitching Perfect Game in MLB 2K10

Remember when you were younger and you were content to waste your life away playing video games all day, every day? You probably would have, had it not been for your mother reminding you that it was a waste of time.

Well, for Wade McGilberry, playing video games has now paid off. Big-time.

The 24-year-old Alabama native pitched a perfect game while playing Major League Baseball 2K10. Normally, that ends in a man sitting alone, celebrating on the inside with nobody to tell. Yet when McGilberry recorded out No. 27, it was on the day of the $1 million promotion, and he's now a rich, rich man.

He did so on March 3, but the world hadn't heard about it until Thursday, because the contest ended on May 2.

Playing the video game was probably not too embarrassing for McGilberry, but there was one stipulation: The game had to be recorded and put on a DVD. It worked out for him, but imagining the thousands of others who filmed their attempts that came undone at some point provides hope for some YouTube classics to emerge.

"It was actually my wife who convinced me to go for it," McGilberry was quoted as saying on UPI.com. "I never thought I'd actually win a million dollars playing a video game, it's all still sinking in for me."

If you're curious, McGilberry "threw" the perfect game with Braves pitcher Kenshin Kawakama. He played against (who else?) the New York Mets.
