The Winnipeg Jets may have become the Phoenix Coyotes 14 years ago, but there still exists at least one bitter fan who wants them back.

A 33-year-old Lundar, Manitoba, man is facing numerous charges after making a series of 911 calls demanding that officers bring the NHL back to the province, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.

According to a justice who spoke with the Winnipeg Free Press, the man started his conversation with the dispatcher by simply stating that he wanted the Jets back.

"He was quite upset about it," the justice said.

The dispatcher reportedly informed the man that he was tying up a valuable resource and hung up, but the man continued to call back discussing odd topics.

The distraught Jets fan was eventually arrested, even requesting that the police bring him cigarettes on their way over.

The Winnipeg Jets were in existence from 1972 until 1996, at which point they became the Phoenix Coyotes.

Shane Doan, who is the current Phoenix Coyotes captain, is the last player on the team to have played during the Winnipeg days. He played 74 games as a rookie with the Jets in 1995-96.

Whether Winnipeg should once again be home to an NHL team has been debated extensively, but who knew it would go from being a barroom discussion to a painstaking issue that requires the police to get involved?
