Mike Lowell’s Future Still Unclear After Meeting With Theo Epstein

The trade deadline has come and gone, and Mike Lowell is still on the Red Sox.

Given all of the talk prior to the deadline, and even all season long, this comes as somewhat of a surrpise.

Apparently, the Sox shopped Lowell, but found no takers for him prior to the July 31 cutoff point.

After Saturday night's win, Theo Epstein met with Lowell to discuss his future, but the ramifications of that conversation have not been disclosed. About the meeting, Lowell remarked that he had "nothing to say."

Lowell was expected to be activated on Sunday after completing his rehab starts, but that decision was overturned at the last minute. About the move, Terry Francona said that "there was some conversation that’s probably up the food chain from me a little bit that probably needs to continue to happen."

The 2007 World Series MVP could still move in August, as he is expected to clear waivers, according to the Boston Globe.
