Micky Ward to Drop Ceremonial Puck Prior to Bruins-Red Wings Game, Appear on NESN During Intermission

What better way to celebrate an Academy Award-nominated film?

By dropping the ceremonial puck at the Bruins-Red Wings game on Friday night at TD Garden, of course.

Lowell native"Irish" Micky Ward, for whom the movie The Fighter is based on, will drop the ceremonial puck before the B's game on Friday and will join NESN during the second intermission, which can be found on NESN.com shortly thereafter.

Ward, who turned pro in 1985 and started 14-0 in his professional career, retired with a 38-13 pro record and captured both the WBU Intercontinental Light Welterweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title.

The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg as Ward, received seven Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale), Best Supporting Actress (Melissa Leo and Amy Adams), Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing.
