John Henry Discusses Anfield's Qualities as Stadium Talk Continues Liverpool supporters may continue to call Anfield their home for the foreseeable future. According to a BBC report, principal owner John Henry may choose to renovate Anfield instead of building a new shared stadium with rival Everton.

The storied stadium has housed Liverpool since 1892, when Everton vacated the building, and since then it has been home to some of the most dramatic moments in the history of English football.

Henry is no stranger to dealing with aging stadiums, as the Boston Red Sox’ ownership group saw itself in a similar situation when it inherited an aging Fenway Park. Red Sox fans know Fenway for all its quirks, uniqueness and significance to the team, something the new owners did not want to disrupt.

“We were surprised at how beautiful Anfield was, both viewing it as an empty stadium and then with the first game,” Henry said. “It would be hard to replicate that feeling anywhere else.”
