Shawn Thornton: 'I Support the Decision, I Was Probably the Right Guy to Come Out of the Lineup' Shawn Thornton is the ultimate team player. He sticks up for his teammates, he does the dirty work and he seeks no glory. He's a throwback to the days of the big, bad Bruins, and he's beloved as much as any fourth-liner in the entire NHL.

However, Thornton, 33, has had to watch much of the Eastern Conference final from the press box, as he's been replaced in the lineup by Tyler Seguin. Though Thornton is one of just two Bruins with a Stanley Cup on his resume, he had just one assist, no goals and a minus-1 rating in 13 playoff games this season. He said Thursday on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich that if he were the coach, he'd probably sit himself, too.

"It's tough. I don't like watching hockey," Thornton said. "I support the decision. I was probably the right guy to come out of the lineup, if you take a step back and look at the whole picture."

"With that being said, I've worked 33 years to get where I am, [so] I'm not going to like sitting out. If I liked sitting out, then I probably wouldn't be the competitive professional that I am."

Thornton added that he's doing all he can to help the Bruins win, despite not playing in games, and he also shared some of the frustration he dealt with Wednesday night in Tampa.

"Never mind the clacking [of the noisemakers]; there was four kids with those giant horns in the box right next to mine," he said. "If they weren't kids, I might've grabbed 'em and beaten them close to death. They were so loud. I was losing it."

He was just joking. Probably.
