There's a reason why Li Na did something no other Chinese tennis player has accomplished.
Li Hongzhong, the Hubei Party secretary said socialism factored into Li's French Open victory, the Global Times reports.
"Li winning the French Open was a showcase of her competitive strength as well as a demonstration of the superiority of socialism with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China," he said during a ceremony honoring the French Open champion on Monday.
The report said that Li is now among China's biggest sports stars, alongside the NBA's Yao Ming.
