Since David Portnoy posted a nude photo of Tom Brady's son on his website, Barstool Sports, and WEEI's The Big Show spent much of its drive-time block debating the decision, the Boston-based blogger has been the subject of much controversy.
Many radio callers and Internet commenters have clamored for some sort of criminal punishment for Portnoy. While those requests may be over the top, Portnoy's now officially received his first punishment.
The popular blogger, known as "El Pres," has been a regular guest on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan on Friday mornings. That appearance, according to WEEI's VP of programming Jason Wolfe, will be no more.
"For those of you who've been tweeting at me. No we will not have portnoy on again. What he did was completely irresponsible," Wolfe tweeted. "It's not about whether he was allowed to do it or not. It's about common decency. And he showed none."
The announcement is far from shocking, as both Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley denounced Portnoy for the blog post. Dale Arnold also engaged in a less-than cordial Twitter exchange with Portnoy on Thursday evening. Arnold announced Friday morning on WEEI that Portnoy would "not be appearing on this radio station today or any other day. He will not be appearing on this radio station again."
