Goal.com reports that Liverpool is considering moving for Brazilian striker Leandro Damião in an audacious £20 million ($31.3 million) transfer bid in January. The 22-year-old hitman plays for Brazilian talent-factory Internacional and has attracted Liverpool scouts because of his stellar scoring record.
"If there is an opportunity to play in Europe, of course I would like it," Damião said recently.
He made his first division debut in January 2010 and has become a mainstay for Internacional. He helped them claim the 2010 Copa Libertadores crown and made one appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup.
He also has four caps for Brazil’s senior team. He has scored 39 goals in all competitions this season.
Damião signed a five-year contract in June after Internacional rejected a £16.5 million ($25.8 million) offer from Tottenham Hotspur.
The report claims Liverpool has scouted him on at least six different occasions in his homeland and assistant manager Steve Clark watched him score the winner for Brazil in a recent 1-0 friendly victory over Ghana in London.
Although he would not automatically qualify for a work permit due to a lack of international appearances, he could earn one under the “exceptional talent” clause.
