In all likelihood, it all began with a few fans hanging "K's" on an outfield wall to mark the strikeouts by the home pitcher. Since then, homemade signs at baseball stadiums have branched out, from messages to family members to blatant attempts just to get on TV.
Red Sox fans showed their creative sides Sunday during the "Signs of Fenway." But signs are a common sight at the park at every game.
"I came all the way from (insert out-of-state locale here)!" is a popular one.
"Don and Jerry, I love you!" expresses a nearly universal sentiment directed toward Red Sox announcers Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy.
"This is my first game!" is always heartwarming, whether the sign is held by a tyke or a middle-aged fan finally making a pilgrimage to America's Most Beloved Ballpark.
Homemade signs can be a great way for fans to express themselves at the park — provided they don't interfere with other fans' enjoyment of the game.
