Report: Vicente Padilla Latest Pitcher to Draw Red Sox’ Interest

Vicente Padilla is the latest veteran pitcher the Red Sox are monitoring.

The Nicaraguan newspaper El Nuevo Diario reports that Boston has shown interest in the 34-year-old pitcher. Padilla, a native of Nicaragua, has been playing in the country's winter league and has reportedly been throwing 95-96 mph.

Padilla made nine appearances out of the bullpen for the Dodgers last season, recording three saves and posting a 4.15 ERA. His season ended abruptly in June, when he underwent surgery to repair a disk in his neck.

One year before, Padilla was the Dodgers' Opening Day starter and wound up going 6-5 in 16 starts. In 13 seasons with the Diamondbacks, Phillies, Rangers and Dodgers, Padilla has compiled a 104-90 record with a 4.31 ERA and 1,070 strikeouts.
