Report: Theo Epstein Compensation to Red Sox Will Be Pitcher From Cubs’ 40-Man Roster

The Theo Epstein compensation drama may finally be coming to a close.

After weeks of discussions, the Cubs will be sending the Red Sox a "quality minor leaguer" in exchange for Epstein's services, according to ESPN.com. The deal could come soon, as the report goes on to indicate that the two sides are "close" to a deal.

More specifically, WEEI.com reports that the minor leaguer will be a pitcher off the Cubs' 40-man roster, which would preclude Matt Garza from any transaction between the teams.

At this point, it's unclear how much commissioner Bud Selig may have intervened to force the two teams to come to an agreement, but the deal is certainly a long time coming for many Red Sox fans.
