TAMPA, Fla. –– Word circulated back to Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine about Ozzie Guillen's expletive-laced comments.

When the Marlins manager was ejected during Monday's game, Valentine was caught on tape waving goodbye to Guillen. Following the game, Guillen uttered a profanity –– albeit with a smile –– in reaction to Valentine's gesture.

"I don't see it," Guillen said. "I would have told him to go and [expletive] himself, too. That's the way Ozzie Guillen is."

Valentine laughed the comments off on Tuesday and said he wasn't offended whatsoever.

"Isn't that his standard comment on everything?," Valentine said. "Does he ever not say that about something?"

The Red Sox skipper insisted he was simply attempting to bid farewell to his managing counterpart with the gesture.

"I was kind of waving to Ozzie to get his attention to say goodbye in Miami and it became a big thing," Valentine said. "And it became a big thing in spring training."

After Guillen's ejection, Boston edged Miami 5-3 in 10 innings.
