One of Bobby Valentine's biggest responsibilities this spring training was making sure that two shortstops — Mike Aviles and Jose Iglesias — each got enough time at short for the club to make a decision on who would be the starter.
That decision came on Tuesday when the team announced that it was sending Iglesias to Triple-A, effectively making Aviles the Opening Day starter.
There were times this spring when Valentine praised the Iglesias for the youngster's slick-fielding ways, but in the end, it looks like Iglesias' struggles at the plate ended up costing him the job — for now.
