Many people think Kevin Youkilis‘ days as a viable third baseman are over. But several baseball executives appear to disagree.
Youkilis “has multiple contract offers on the table,” according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com. Youkilis is reportedly weighing both high-dollar, one-year options and multiyear deals.
Youkilis was traded midway through last season from the Red Sox to the White Sox, who declined to pick up his option for the 2013 season. But Chicago reportedly isn’t done considering Youkilis for its third-base needs, and the competition has now increased.
The Yankees are said to be looking at Youkilis now that Alex Rodriguez is expected to miss serious time with his latest hip ailment.
Youkilis can also still play first base, his more natural position.
Youkilis hit just .235 last season but batted .275 against left-handed pitchers, and he continues to be an on-base threat. He had a .336 on-base percentage last year (.386 against lefties).
