Bill Nye ‘The Science Guy’ Calls Out Jose Canseco Over Bizarre Gravity Theories

Note to Jose Canseco: We’re laughing at you, not with you.

A few days ago we brought you a string of tweets from the former roided-up baseball star, in which Canseco shared his theories on ancient gravity. We’ll spare you all the details, but over the course of eight tweets, Canseco claimed that gravity in the time of the dinosaurs must have been much weaker, since “muscles and ligaments” couldn’t support animals so large.

Suffice it to say, Canseco’s theories have absolutely no scientific merit, and the increasingly public Bill Nye “The Science Guy” threw himself into the fray.

In an email to The Huffington Post, Nye really doesn’t debunk Canseco so much as mock him. The former host of his eponymous science show’s nicest comment was probably that Canseco isn’t “especially fluent in physics.” However, he also says that apparently “we as a society have failed him completely with regard to the fundamentals of planetary science.”

For his part, upon hearing the news of Nye’s disapproval, Canseco took back to Twitter. First he attacked Nye, calling him a head-in-the-sand skeptic and a bad dresser. Then (apparently upon re-reading the letter) for some reason Canseco made an about face, offering Nye a hug.
