Report: Keith Olbermann to Return to ESPN2 for Late-Night Talk Show, Barred From Discussing Politics

Oh so many years ago — in 1997, in fact — Keith Olbermann left his job at ESPN to conquer the world of TV politics, moving on to a controversial career at MSNBC and later Current TV. Well, now it appears that Olbermann may be returning home.

A potential reunion between ESPN and Olbermann has been speculated for years now. Back in March, the rumors began anew with reports that Olbermann wanted back with the network despite having alienated many people he worked with. Either way, that reunion may well be finally happening.

Olbermann is set to return to the network, and will host a late-night talk show on ESPN2, according to Variety. An official announcement may come as soon as Wednesday.

Given Olbermann’s penchant for saying controversial things, though, he is barred from talking about politics on the show, according to The New York Times. Olbermann had recently signed a deal to host TBS’ coverage of Major League Baseball — his first official work since being fired by Current TV more than a year ago — but it’s not clear if his ESPN deal affects that arrangement.
