Report: Matt Harvey Will Start All-Star Game for National League, Represent Mets at Citi Field

Matt Harvey has had an incredible sophomore season for the New York Mets, going 7-2 with a 0.91 WHIP and 147 strikeouts in 130 innings pitched. Now, it appears that his phenomenal campaign will be rewarded with a start in the All-Star Game.

Harvey will be named the National League’s starting pitcher by San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy, according to the New York Daily News. The decision would make Harvey just the third pitcher to start an All-Star Game held at his home stadium. The first two were the Giants’ Carl Hubbell in 1934 and the White Sox’ Esteban Loaiza in 2003.

Harvey pitched 59 1/3 innings in 2012, making him ineligible for the Rookie of the Year award. However, given the way his career has gone so far, his All-Star Game appearance should be just the beginning of many accolades to come for the 24-year-old right-hander.
