Mets Put on Baseball Clinic for Newtown, Conn., Students, David Wright Plays Catch With Young Players (Video)

David Wright may be sidelined with a hamstring injury, but despite being on the disabled list, the Mets captain is still finding ways to contribute on the field.

On Sunday afternoon, the New York Mets and Citibank hosted 50 Newtown, Conn., students and their families for a baseball clinic before the Mets took on the Marlins. After working on hitting, pitching and outfield drills with Anthony Recker, Zack Wheeler and Mike Baxter — the trio of players who put on the clinic — Wright came out onto the field and played catch with a couple of the kids.

“The parents and the children really go through a lot, and this really does help to heal a little bit,” Newtown baseball coach Bob Elias told CBS New York.

Wright took a few moments to talk to the Newtown coach, and he asked him who their starting third baseman was. Elias pointed to Jared Brady, who was then approached by Wright for a little game of catch at Citi Field.
