Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz has pledged to buy a beer for the first 2,500 fans who show up at the KFC Yum! Center for their Preseason WNIT semifinal game against LSU, according to USA Today Sports. The athletic department is already running a $2 drink promotion that night, but Walz wanted to give fans an extra incentive to get to the game early.
“We’re just trying to have a little bit of a good time here at the ballgame,” Walz said after Monday’s 100-82 win over Quinnipiac. “Make sure you have a designated driver if you want to come and have a few of them.”
The Cardinals are ranked No.5 in the nation, and Walz said he just wanted to show his appreciation to U of L’s loyal, of-age fans.
“It’s a little way to say thanks to all our adults who come and support us, and we’re just trying to get some of our fans who haven’t come out to come on out one time and get a drink and enjoy the ballgame and hopefully grab the attention of a few more fans,” he said.
Fans who are 21 or older can pick up a voucher when they arrive at the game to redeem at the concession stands for their free beer. Walz paid for all 2,500 drinks out of his own pocket.
