San Jose Sharks Robbed of Game-Winning Overtime Goal Against Buffalo Sabres After Play Wasn’t Reviewed (Video)

The struggling Buffalo Sabres were able to pull off somewhat of an upset win Tuesday night over San Jose, despite the fact that the Sharks put the puck in the net first during overtime.

The Sabres led the Sharks 4-1 in the third period, but San Jose battled back to tie things up before time ran out. The Sharks then scored what looked like the game-winning goal with three minutes to play in overtime — but no one seemed to notice.

Sharks forward Tommy Wingels fired a shot past Ryan Miller off of a deflection that careened off the far side of the goal post, and with Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers blocking the official’s sight line, no one acknowledged that the puck had actually crossed the goal line when Wingels went to punch it in. The referee signaled “no goal,” the play wasn’t reviewed, and the Sabres went on to win after scoring in overtime.
