Canadian Figure Skater Drug-Tested Just Hours Before Competing In Sochi

Canadian figure skater Kaetlyn Osmond was drug-tested just eight hours before competing in Sochi on Saturday night.

“We know they can test any time, but we’ve never seen them on the day of competition,” Skate Canada high performance director Mike Slipchuk told The Canadian Press. “I’ve never seen that in any competition.”

Drug testing is part of Olympic procedures, but Canadians are starting to wonder if the Russians are trying to throw off their athletes by holding the random drug screenings at particularly unfavorable times.

Seven members of the Canadian figure skating team already have been tested, including pairs skaters Dylan Moscovitch and Megan Duhamel, who were asked to provide a sample at midnight after their plane had landed in Sochi.

Luckily for Team Canada, Osmond remained in the zone and skated a stellar short program, pushing Canada to second overall at the end of Day 2.

Slipchuk said he made his concerns known to the Canadian Olympic Committee.
