James van Riemsdyk Sets Franchise Record For Fastest Goal To Start A Period (Video)

Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk set a new franchise record for the fastest goal to start a period on Friday night, scoring just four seconds into the second frame against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Leafs entered the second period down by a goal, but van Riemsdyk’s quick tally, which ties the NHL record, knotted the score before the Flyers even knew what had happened.

The goal, van Riemsdyk’s 29th of the season, was made possible by Tyler Bozak’s clean faceoff win at center ice. Bozak sent van Riemsdyk flying into the Philadelphia zone and he beat goaltender Steve Mason glove side to even up the score 1-1.
